Meeting called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Pillsbury Pledge of
Allegiance and Conservation Pledge Roll Call: Present Carafelly, Pillsbury,
Frase, McKinney, Marsh, Dombroski (arrived late), Bertch, Anderson, Wright,
Smith, Spencer
Financial Report: Ending balance for October is $12,425.94. Motion to approve
financial report by Carafelly, second by Frase. Motion approved.
Shoot report: Shooting income for October is $1,310.10. Motion to approve shoot
report by Smith, second by McKinney. Motion approved.
Minutes from October: One amendment made to correct “shots” to “rounds” under
Trap Purchase under Old Business. Motion to approve minutes as amended by
Pillsbury, second by Anderson. Motion approved.
Old business:
1. Trap: There has been discussion about conducting training classes to train
interested members on proper usage of the new Trap. No formal classes have been
conducted but several members have received informal instruction. There is
ongoing concern about the power requirements for the new Trap as sometimes the
motor heats up. Other options to be considered are running a new dedicated power
line, adding capacitators or simply moving items (pop machine) in the clubhouse
to make less drain on the Trap circuit. McKinney offered to donate 180-200 feet
of #10 wire to run new line if needed. Starting in spring, the Trap shooters are
hoping to add another day of practice shooting from 3:00 -5:00 on Wednesdays.
More talk about 4H kids assisting in running the Trap. They could load the shoot
shed, keep score, help setup and cleanup. In return, they would earn credit
towards their own Trap rounds.
2. NRA Grant: We have received $2,000.00 from the NRA to be used towards Range
development at the Oscoda range. We need to carefully document how these funds
are spent. We hope to reapply next year. Wright and McKinney will be the point
people for reapplying next year.
3. Club maintenance: Dale Bertch has volunteered to take over maintenance of the
clubhouse. We still need someone to volunteer to take over club quarterly
dinners.
4. McKinney was nominated to be in charge of events at the Wurtsmith Range.
Motion by Anderson, second by Carafelly. Motion approved.
5. Newsletter: Penny Wojahn will be working on a Club newsletter. Please send
her photos, schedules, event information to Penny@TargetRealEstate.com. She
can’t do a newsletter until we email her the information she needs to create it.
We hope to mail one out at the first of the year.
6. Delegate for Chamber of Commerce: Spencer volunteered to attend Chamber
meetings to encourage them to list our events in their newsletter.
7. Women’s Day Events: Planned for September 16, 2006.
8. Fundraising: Founder’s Club: McKinney would like to form a Founder’s Club to
encourage people to make contributions to the Club. There would be about three
different levels of donation- Silver, Gold and Platinum. A donation would
entitle individual to get their name on a plaque and to a free pass for a year.
Scott Ostrander from Oscoda is willing to make the plaques for us in return for
“Founder status” for himself. Motion made to begin the Founder program by
Carafelly, second by Spencer. Motion approved.
9. Road: Jay’s RV will grade and add gravel to smooth out the entrance road. We
need to post a 5 mph sign to encourage drivers to slow down. This will help
maintain the road in good condition.
New Business
1. Sight-in Days has begun. We need volunteers for this very important Club fund
raiser.
2. Pistol Practice is starting soon. Check the calendar for practice days.
League officially starts on January 2.
3. December dinner is scheduled for December 7. Club will provide ham and
everyone should bring a dish to pass. Cost is $6.00/person.
4. Name of Wurtsmith range: Discussion of what to call the new range. Consensus
is that it is well recognized state-wide as the “Wurtsmith Range”. Power should
be turned on by next week. The water heaters and tanks have been removed. Our
septic system will have to be a cistern-type system due to the lack of usable
water. Discussed types of gates to use.
5. Fencing: Work bee this weekend to start to take down and move donated
fencing. We will need manpower and tractors. We will eventually fence 8 acres of
the shooting area with 8’ high cyclone fencing. We will eventually use barbed
wire to fence the entire 50 acres and post well for safety reasons. Discussed
how much of the fencing work we can do and how much we may hire out to Alcona
Fencing. We will store fencing for the winter to erect in the spring.
6. Berms: We may need more berm material to be fully NRA compliant. An
alternative is to lower the height of the shooting bunkers.
7. Survey: We will need the land surveyed before we start to put the fence.
McKinney has someone who may survey fairly inexpensively.
New members: Michael Kredell. Motion to approve by McKinney, second by
Pillsbury. Motion approved.
Mailbag: 4H Reward and Recognition Banquet on Sunday, November 6 at the
Plainfield Township Hall. Also United Way solicitation and election ballot from
Tawas Chamber of Commerce.
Adjourn at 8:40 p.m. Motion by Carafelly, second by Anderson. Motion approved.
