January 5 , 2006

I. Meeting called to order.
II. Roll Call. Present: Carafelly, Pillsbury, Frase, McKinney, Marsh, Dombroski, Bertch, Anderson, Wright, Smith, Spencer. Discussed that this is third absence in a row for Reinke. President Pillsbury will contact Reinke to discuss absences.
III. Minutes from last month’s meeting-
Corrections.
1. Change time of Tuesday 22 shooting to 1:00 p.m. (from noon).
2. Change spelling from “burms” to “berms”.
3. Change information about “water tanks” to “wells”.
4. Motion to approve minutes as amended by Dombroski, second by Carafelly. Motion passed.
5. Also discussed Chamber meetings and creating a brochure that Chamber could distribute to interested people. Spencer will have more information next Board meeting.
IV. Financial Report from Anderson. Ending balance from December $11,549.49. Discussion regarding increased heating costs. Noted that .22 pistol league has increased shooting fees from $3.00 to $4.00, in response to increased heating costs. Motion to accept financial report from Wright, second by McKinney. Motion passed.
V. Shoot Report from Pillsbury. Income of $137.50 from pistol shooters. Motion to accept shoot report by Wright, second by Carafelly. Motion passed.
VI. Old business.
1. Founder’s Fund starts next week. Talked about publicity and potential mass mailings to publicize. Passed around sheet with details of various support levels. Changes include that donors will be able to specify where the money can be used. Also free range passes cannot be used for sight-in days.
2. Trap League begins Sunday, January 8, and continues each Sunday through March. 3. Pistol League shoots Sunday afternoon, Monday evenings, Tuesday afternoons and Bullseye League shoots Thursday evenings.
VII. New business
1. Fence project. Work bee scheduled for January 14 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
2. Wurtsmith improvements. We have power at Wurtsmith Range. Electric bills should start arriving at the end of January. Keith Wojahn evaluated the carpet in building. Recommended professional cleaning at cost of $150.00. We don’t need to replace yet. We are working on establishing heat in the building. Scott Rudolph will pull firebox out of furnace to test. We have a fuel oil boiler in building. Ken Williams will help us lay out plan for shooting ranges with scaled drawings. We may lay barbed wire fence about 15’ inside regular fence.
3. Land Survey. Almost completed.
4. Rental house. House is not rented. Ads have been in paper for two months. Potential renters have been deterred by having to pay deposit + first month’s rent all at once. We may allow them to pay deposit spread out over first 4 month’s. The rental house needs a new furnace. This would also be a selling point for future renter’s to decrease their utility costs with a high-efficiency furnace. Motion “to spend up to $1,500.00 to replace furnace in rental house” by Wright, second by Smith, Motion passed. We will start getting some estimates for replacement and try to get the work completed before house is rented again.
5. Special Shooting Event. During Perchville, we will host the Frozen Chosen event.
6. Club Gun Show. We will try to plan one for the end of March. We need vendors and buyers.
7. Election Committee. Need to start thinking of replacements for 4 board members whose terms expire this year. Dave Anderson will no longer be Treasurer soon.
8. Club newsletter. Bring articles for inclusion in newsletter to next board meeting. We will try to mail a newsletter out after next Board meeting.
9. Club Work Projects. Motion to start having monthly work bees on the last Saturday of each month, either here or at Wurtsmith Range. Motion by Carafelly, second by Wright. Motion passed. Other clubs have good turnouts with regularly scheduled monthly work bees.
10. Club House winterization and repair. Bertch reported that he has climbed into the attic to check the status of our current insulation. To increase our current insulation to 6”, it would cost $1,053.00 in materials. (labor not included) We also have very little ventilation in the attic. More insulation would translate into smaller heat bills. Wright made a motion “to spend up to $1,400.00 to insulate the attic.” Second by Carafelly. Motion passed. We also need to add plastic over some of the Club windows to minimize heat loss.
11. Is membership required to shoot pistols indoors? No. Wright made a motion” that nonmembers be allowed to shoot indoors with supervision and with known proficiency in handguns”. It will left up the discretion of the rangemaster to assess these criteria. Second by McKinney. Motion passed.
12. Minimum age limits. We currently have 4H that allows children age 14-17 to shoot 22 rifle indoors. Wright made motion that “kids must be 14 or above to shoot 22 rifle inside and 18 or above to shoot 22 pistols inside.” Second by McKinney. Motion passed.
VIII. New members. Bill Shoemaker is new member. Motion by Wright, second by McKinney. Motion passed.
IX. Mail Bag. Chamber of Commerce newsletter. Solicitation from National Shooting Sports Foundation. Sales flyer from Salute steel targets. New member recruitment flyer from MCRGO.
X. Motion to adjourn at 8:45 pm by Anderson, second by Frase. Motion passed.
