IX. New Business
A. Work Bees are scheduled at Wurtsmith Range every day from May 6-13 and then again from June 10-17. We will work from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. We need as many people as possible if we hope to open range this summer.
B. Election Committee: June is our annual election of officers. 4 Director positions will be available and 5 applicants will be running- Tom Marsh, Rich Dixon, John McGrath, Dale Bertch and Tom Dombroski.
C. Newsletter: Please send articles to Penny Wojahn by May 10th.
D. Pie-Shaped Land status: We need to acquire this 6 ½ acre portion of land from the state to construct all the shooting ranges we would like. We are still working on this.
E. Bank Account: When a new Treasurer is elected, we will transfer our accounts to the Credit Union. They will allow us to separate funds within one account. This will make it easier to keep track of funds. The account is free as long as we maintain a $25.00 balance.
F. Reimbursement of $100.00 each to Rich Dixon and Tom Dombroski, in return for allowing us to use their tractors for many work bees. This will help defray the cost of fuel. Motion by McKinney, second by Carafelly. Motion carried.
G. Wood Sale: Much wood (firewood quality) is still remaining on the Wurtsmith property. Motion to allow members to take a pickup load for $10.00 and nonmembers to pay $20.00. We will put an ad in the paper to advertise the fireplace wood.
H. Equipment: Wurtsmith Range needs a refrigerator, grill and a vacuum (Shop vac-type). We will wait til the next General Meeting and ask members if they have any of the above equipment to donate. Anything that is not donated, we will discuss purchase later.
I. Oscoda range building needs some work. We need to power wash the building and/ or shed. The roof and soffits need to be repaired. We need a trash dumpster and portapoddies. We may look into a phone later.
J. It was mentioned that some shooting clubs do not pay any property taxes. Some have petitioned local governments to reduce or eliminate taxes due to the educational nature of our work in the community and because we may bring business and visitors to the community. It was noted that we could apply for a tax abatement request.
K. Someone requested that we look into providing shade for the patio at the Tawas Club, in the form of a patio umbrella or awning. We may ask if RV place has any awnings available.
L. Tawas Sand and Gravel is owed $1,700.00 for earth-moving done at Wurtsmith Range. Motion to pay by McKinney, second by Wright. Motion carried.
M. Calendar: Need to add Monday and Thursday Trap leagues. We are starting an Outdoor Bullseye League on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
N. No new members.
O. Mail Bag: Solicitation for donation to Pheasants Forever, Info on how to put on a golf fundraiser, 4-H Newsletter, Freedom Magazine and NRA equipment sales brochure.
P. Motion to adjourn by Carafelly, second by Frase. Motion carried.
