Annual meeting of Iosco Sportsmen’s Club was called to order at the club
house in Baldwin Centre, Michigan, by President Lynn Pillsbury at 7:15 p.m. June
7, 2006, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and Conservation Pledge
All directors except Jodie Spencer, Tom Dombroski and Rich Dixon were present
with the directors and members present constituting a quorum to conduct business
of the annual meeting.
Minutes: Minutes of the May meeting were accepted as presented by voice vote on
motion of David Wright, second of John Smith.
Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer David Anderson reported income of $11,083.65 and
expenses of $4,671.22 for May with shooting providing additional income of

balance of $7,670.03. The treasurer’s report was accepted as presented by voice

it President Pillsbury reiterating shooting produced $1,539.00 in income for May
with a $6.00 expense. Prior to the acceptance of the shoot report on voice vote
with motion by Frase and second by Anderson, member Jan Cortright told the
membership trap targets would have to be purchased in the next few weeks.
Board of Director Election: President Pillsbury then proceeded with the election
of board of director members. Five candidates for four board seats available
through term expiration and resignation were Dale Bertch, Rich Dixon, Tom
Dombroski, Tom Marsh and John McGrath. Ballots bearing those five names were
passed out to the club members present eligible to vote with instruction to vote
for not more than four candidates and picked up for tally.
Old Business: Membership heard a discussion of possibly buying or leasing
additional property at the club’s former Wurtsmith Air Force Base Rifle Range to
enhance a proposed 500 yard rifle range project at the west end of the 50 acre
site. In light of a $300 application fee to seek either lease or purchase of the
additional land and a Michigan Department of Natural Resources offer to do a
“walk through” of the property for no fee, it was decided an invitation would be
made to the DNR for the property “walk through”.
Perimeter fencing progress at the former Wurtsmith range site and the continuing
fence removal program from the former Air Force Base with that fencing being
used at the range site was discussed
Election Results: President Pillsbury reported the following Board of Directors
election results: Dale Bertch, 18 votes; Rich Dixon, 16 votes; Tom Dombroski, 14
votes; Tom Marsh, eight votes; John McGrath, 16 votes. President Pillsbury
declared Bertch, Dixon, Dombroski and McGrath to be the duly elected board of
director members.
New Business: President Pillsbury discussed the club’s constitution which
authorizes a $2,000 purchase limit for any project without club member approval.
He said a review of the constitution and research into the matter regarding
ongoing expenditures for the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base rifle range had
provided that with the Wurtsmith project approved by membership previously,
contracts in excess of $2,000 for the project construction could be made by the
Iosco Sportsmen’s Club Board of Directors as required.
President Pillsbury also reported one mile of Air Force Base fencing was down
and moved to the former Wurtsmith Rifle Range site for reinstallation and that
club help was necessary for the installation. It was recommended that the Board
of Directors seek bids from fencing companies for the fence installation.
Director Wright said he had purchased four dozen American made Iosco Sportsmen’s
Club hats from Truly Yours, Oscoda, for a cost of $9.50 and $11.50 per hat,
depending on style. He also reported rockers for various shooting activities
were available from Truly Yours for $2.50 each for 100 or $2,00 each for 200. No
action was taken on the rockers but on motion of John Snow, second by John
McGrath and an affirmative voice vote of members present, the hats would be
offered for sale for $15.00 each.
Wright reported that $9,450 had been collected by the sale of Founder’s Club
membership for development use at the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base Rifle
Range now under Iosco Sportsmen’s Club ownership.
Shooting range passes provided as part of the Founder’s Club contribution
package may be used for any of the club’s shooting venues, President Pillsbury
reported.
Checks will be made with the Army Corps of Engineers and the Michigan National
Guard to see if help with bulldozing at the new range site might be available.
Walleyes for Iosco County will be removing walleye fingerlings from its pond in
Tawas Township would be accomplished Thursday, June 8, 2006.

at the Iosco County Fair in July and is seeking certified shooting instructors
and interested club members to work at the trailer. Volunteers were asked to
contact MSU Cooperative Extension or 4-H Shooting Sports Instructor Brian
Loeffler.

the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base Rifle Range. Any member interested in making

action and a Tawas Area Chamber of Commerce newsletter was presented.
