Welcome to the Iosco Sportsmen’s Club

Iosco Sportsmen’s Club
P.O. Box 47
East Tawas MI 48730

The Iosco Sportsmen’s Club was established in 1947 for the purpose of fostering conservation, promoting and educating in the area of sportsmanship, camaraderie, fairness and safety in all aspects of outdoor sports.

The Club operates two shooting ranges. The East Tawas range is located at 1600 N US 23, in Baldwin Township (next to Jay’s RV). This range offers shooting for rifles, pistols and muzzle loaders. The range is available year round to members and weekends, during the summer, for the public.

The former Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Small Arms Firing Range now officially belongs to the Iosco Sportsmen’s Club. It is located at 2827 Rea Road, in Oscoda, behind the former airbase. A considerable amount of work was done prior to the ranges grand opening in May of 2007. The property was logged, cleared and over 2,000 yards of soil was obtained to build safety berms and backstops. An additional 15,000 yards of soil was moved on the property as well. The entire property, consisting of 50 acres was completely fenced prior to opening and the various shooting areas were built. This range features multiple covered pistol bays, as well as 100, 300, and 600 yard rifle ranges are available.

Various matches are held throughout the shooting season. Consult the club calendar for more information. Public shooting is available on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Holidays during the summer months.

Shotgun activities were moved from the East Tawas range and expanded to include Trap, Skeet and 5-Stand. A summer shotgun league is also held.

Sight in days are provided to members and the general public for approximately two weeks before the start of the firearm deer season in Michigan. Volunteers are available to assist with sighting in your rifles at both ranges.

The club is a host to various youth shooting programs such as 4H. Shotgun, muzzle loader, 22 rimfire and bb gun have been enjoyed.

The directors meet on the first Wednesday of the month at the East Tawas clubhouse at 7pm. All members are encouraged to attend. General membership meetings are held the first Wednesday of March, June, September and December. The June meeting features the Club election of Board officers.

As with many not for profit organization, a handful of members perform most of the work. Our club is no exception. In order to continue to improve the ranges, we ask that all who wish to see the progress continue can commit to this by volunteering your energy and/or financial support.

Please make it a point to attend a work bee. The first is normally held the last Saturday in April. If you have a special skill or equipment which can be used on range projects, please make a Board member aware of your willingness to help out. A formal workbee is not necessary to help the cause as grass needs cutting throughout the summer.
